Bio:
Statement and Bio: No one looking at Faith knows exactly why this woman has a .45-caliber pistol on the table next to her. Nevertheless, for the viewer, the gun is loaded; it necessarily exists as a narrative element, a truly loaded image, a target of one's attention and imagination. Such is the power of the gun. Its mere presence provokes apprehension and suggests violent endings. It has the power to turn the mundane and ordinary into sheer adrenaline. On both the personal and societal levels, this has become an addiction.
In her work, Robin Michals explores the complex dependence of human cultures on weapons and military armaments. Her most recent work sets the frail vulnerability of individual existence within the historical and social context of war and technology.
Robin Michals has recently had solo exhibitions at the Buffalo Arts Studio and the University of Vermont. She has also shown at Eyewash in Williamsburg and with Venetia Kapernekas Fine Arts in Chelsea. Her web site, www.e-arcades.com, was included in the Ninth Annual New York Digital Salon. She is an assistant professor of digital imaging and photography at The New York City College of Technology. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
