Bio:
The Childís Squeeze Chair is part of the larger Squeeze Chair Project: a series upholstered chairs with arms that inflate, holding the sitter in a firm hug. The project grew out of my meetings with Temple Grandin, animal scientist and engineer, who designed a squeeze machine, modeled after a cattle squeeze chute, to apply even pressure to her own body. Grandin is also autistic, and like many with autism she is especially receptive to the calming effects of pressure. The Squeeze Chair offers the comforts of an embrace, delivered in the familiar form of a chair.

As a developmental phenomenon, autismís onset is frequently detected in the first five years of a childís life. In response to this etiology I have re-engineered the Squeeze Chair for 3 to 5 year-olds.
