Bio:
Curriculum Vitae In this piece I spent over a year cutting up every document that contained my name; ie: my birth certificate, passport, college diploma, electric bills, art reviews, etc. Every written document in my life that sets to define me. All of the letters were then placed in a clear urn and displayed under a vitrine.
Lift Me Higher is a stack of ten bibles that have been glued together and covered with encaustic medium. Small laser cut letters were then placed into the encaustic medium. This piece is a commentary on religion. It is both personal and universal. A few years ago my younger brother turned to religion after a series of difficult times in my family. I am probably considered to be agnostic at best. He and I often had discussions about his faith that would often escalate into full arguments. After one such horrible argument that ended with him storming out of the studio I wrote the text that I later put on this piece. We have since found the ability to co-exist in our spaces without the topic coming up anymore.
