Bio:
My current projects organize a confluence of constructional iconographic sources within the local cultural landscape of Baltimore City. The installations place a sub-culture that is familiar with the tools and materials beside the site where repair is needed. Shapes of damaged buildings are carved into drywall. Entropy of the holes is altered in a naturally destructive process, followed by idealistic repair using proper sized patches, drywall spackle and tape. I use readymades that have finished their life cycle, using the installation format to revivify them. My work asks, should there be a striving to create truly original and innovative solutions both ideologically and physically? It questions the relevance of authorship by placing emphasis on grass root skills. As this is my first attempt at playing the role of both conceptual and technical activist; there are unresolved issues in how to evoke ideas of alternative methods for viewer-artwork-community-institutional interaction.
