Bio:
Me, myself, and I, Andy Gensler, have been a music fanatic since the age of seven when my mom forced piano lessons on me. But I rebelled, took up guitar, and by 8th grade the Pall Bearers, my band, had won Alice Deal junior highs prestigious talent show with our bombastic rendition of Lynyrd Skynyd's Free Bird. After stints in several more commercially and critically unsuccessful rock bands, including the Home Fries and Lincolns Dick, and several sad afternoons busking in Grand Central and Washington Square Park, I turned my attention to music writing. Ive since been published in Rolling Stone, Spin, the Washington Post, the Phoenix New Times, and Smug, and do my best to herald under-appreciated music of all genres outside major corporate labels and radio stations. In addition, I co-founded the Mishpucha music collective, an international music community based on the web, and Legalize Dancing, a coalition of New York City music lovers opposed to the citys restrictive dance laws. Most recently I was billed as a contributing producer for a music pilot for WNYC radio called Now Hear This and contributed several entries to the latest edition of The Rolling Stones Album Guide.
