Bio:
Rafael Vargas-Suarez (a.k.a. Vargas-Suarez Universal) was born in Mexico City in 1972, raised near NASA in Houston, TX, lives in Brooklyn, and works anywhere. Recent completed projects include a permanent wall drawing commission for Liberty HealthCare Systems Foundation, Jersey City (2004), and a large scale wall drawing commission for the Jersey City Museum, NJ (2003). Recent group exhibitions include Voces y Visiones: Highlight from El Museo del Barrio's Permanent Collection (2003, traveled); Mexico Illuminated Freedman Gallery/Albright College Center for the Arts, Reading, PA (2003); and Il Palazzo delle Liberta, Palazzo delle Papesse Centro Arte Contemporanea, Siena, Italia (2003). Public collections include the Baltimore Museum of Art, MD; Brooklyn Museum of Art Library, NY; El Museo del Barrio, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Palazzo delle Papesse Centro Arte Contemporanea, Siena; Queens Museum of Art, NY; Rhode Island School of Design, Providence; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York among others.
