Bio:
Patricia Payne is a Caribbean-American multimedia solo performer, reluctant shaman, and self-avowed troublemaker, transplanted from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. A founding member of the NeoSpinsters poetry collective, Payne (aka the Velvet Hammer), is the reigning Taos Poetry Circus Heavyweight Champion, and is the second woman, after Anne Waldman, to retain the title for two years. She has collaborated, performed with or opened for icons of creativity such as Rachel Rosenthal, Quincy Troupe, Sarah Jones, the California Ear Group, and David Rousseve. An interdisciplinary artist, her most recent incarnation is as a dancer with Keith Glassmans company.
