Bio:
Xaviera Simmons is an artist who uses a variety of materials, with a focus on photography, video, performance and music based works. She is a 2004 graduate of Bard College, a 2005 graduate of The Whitney Museum Of American Art's Independent Study Program. In June 2005, Xaviera completed a 2 year actor training program, studying Meisner at The Maggie Flanigan Studio, NY. She is the 2005-2006 Artist in Residence at The Jamaica Center For Arts and Learning and The 2005 VKP Program Educator through The New Museum Of Contemporary Art. Her next exhibitions will be Frequency at The Studio Museum In Harlem and a solo Commission from Art In General, a performance/installation bases piece entitled: How To Break Your Own Heart.
