Bio:
Although my work is often discussed in relation to new media, technology and surveillance. I want to address these concepts along with a wide range of at times playfulness, humor, and subversive public participation. My aim is to explore the tension between connectivity, mediation, and embodiment that characterizes the contemporary human condition and the social space within our culture. REDS FLOCK OVER THE BLOCK highlights my objectives as a version of my series of projects using meteorological balloons, wireless technologies, and live surveillance. Together, with the participant, they create a playful, joyful environment which combines moving images, human existence, the contemporary media spectacle, while they address the darker aspects of mediation and disembodiment under the looming eye of uncanny surveillance and loss of our privacy.
My aim in my projects is to design ìobjectsî that subvert their anticipated use, and secondly invent new uses for technologies. I am also exploring the moving image and means of creating narratives in the age of Google, blogging, and real-time surveillance. My influences include video games, aerial observation, war photography, the Situationists, Dada, Fluxus, Andy Warhol, John Cage and the video experiments of Nam June Paik.
