12 – June 25, 2005 Please join us for the OPENING RECEPTION on Thursday, May 12th, 6-9PM Gigantic ArtSpace [GAS] proudly presents ACROSS + DOWN, Edwina White’s debut solo exhibition in New York City. White’s vibrant work incorporates drawing, text, found objects, sound, and animation with a process of experimentation reminiscent of early collage artists. In ACROSS + DOWN White engages the interplay between text and image, specifically the relationship between 57 crossword clues -- taken from the January 1, 2005 edition of the New York Times -- and the making of their visual analogs. Born in Sydney, Australia, Brooklyn-based
artist/ illustrator Edwina White studied Visual Communications
at UTS and at Brighton University, UK. She has contributed illustrations
to international publications including: Flaunt, Esquire UK, Vogue
Australia and Japan, Harper’s Bazaar,Creative Review UK, Print
Magazine and The New York Times. White has previously exhibited
in the UK, Japan, throughout North America, and Australia, and is
represented in private collections in Australia, Europe, and the
USA. |
